Life Stories
My name is Robert Theilen

Greg, Robert and Bruce
I am 37 now, and in 1980 I lost both my legs due to a train accident. I have had several pairs of legs since then.
This new set is the most outstanding I have ever had!
These people are the best in their line of work. Two thumbs up from me and a big thank you to Bruce who referred me to Greg Straub. They go out of their way for us and made me feel a part of the process, not just a number. In my case it has been a few months and I am up running around again.
A big Thank You to Greg and the staff at
Asheville Orthotic Prosthetic Center.
I am so tickled it's ridiculous!!
David Zane
I lost my foot due to a car accident in March of 2001. After enduring 5 years of multiple surgeries, I was in constant pain with greatly limited mobility. In July 2006 the decision was made to amputate.
Being an elective amputee, I had time to do some research. I was told repeatedly, from different sources, to be most concerned about finding the right Prosthetist. So, I began the interviewing process. That ended the day I came to Asheville Orthotic Prosthetic Center.
I first met Andrew and his crew who build the prosthetics. This was the most dedicated and excited group of young men I had encountered. Andrew told me, (not knowing that I am an artist) “We approach each piece as a work of art, and nothing leaves here until it is perfect.” He then invited me to stay and watch a socket being made. I stayed, watched and knew that I was in the right place.
On another visit, I met Greg. I had already researched Greg’s credentials, education and experience. That in no way prepared me to meet this wonderful guy. It was immediately obvious that Greg knew his stuff and just as obvious was his dedication and big heart for his patients. I called my surgeon that day and told him I wanted Greg with him in the operating room and no one else! On the day of the surgery, I was totally calm, knowing that I had the best surgeon and Prosthetist on my side.
There is an incredibly friendly atmosphere at AOPC. I can joke with the staff and have even been invited to stay for lunch, which was a home cooked meal.
My recovery has been a wonderful process of getting my life back. Greg has seen me through each step and always ends our visits saying, “Now look, you call me if you need me.”
Today with my new foot, I am not disabled. I have been set free. Free to live my life and to do anything I choose to do.
